Dear Timmy Ro,
This is you. From the future. I know it sounds silly, but, believe you me, when I say that going to Oxford Academy will not be “the most rewarding experience you will ever have.” I know that your parents are pressuring you to go to Oxford but Oxford won’t even be a huge advantage for you in life or for college. It does have useful experiences but it isn't worth all those nights sleeping really late doing really hard and time consuming multigenre homework late at night. I know sleeping at 10 or 11 P.M. seems incredibly crazy and just a myth to you but trust me, it’s true. It's not just every once in a while, it's every day. And what do you get for working till 10 P.M? I know you're thinking that I’m getting straight A’s since I’m staying up so late but nope, I’m barely getting by so Mom and Dad don't kill me. I know what you’re thinking, “But Timmy, I want people to say that I’m smart!” Well, let’s put it down like this, go to Cypress High School and get a 2200 SAT with a 3.9 and people will worship you like a king. If you get those same grades with double the effort and the same SAT score at Oxford you’ll be just like everyone else. Is that what you what to be, Timmy? Just like everybody else? Trust me, if you want people to think you’re smart with half the effort then just go to Cypress High School. Plus, if you spend the same amount of work you do in Oxford at Cypress then you’ll probably be set for all of High School and for the UC/private school of your dreams. Besides the education and prestige, other schools have so much more to offer for a more pleasing social life.
If you go to Oxford, sure, you’ll meet a lot of really cool people, like Vincent Nguyen, Nick Hwangbo, and so many more. That's probably the best part about Oxford, the people. But come college, you’ll probably never see them again. Instead, focus on your childhood friends, like Kevin Jung and Kwang Lee, because they won’t be living in Tara forever. Remember all those fun childhood moments that you thought would last forever? Yeah, all those memories on the playground will soon come to an end. It’s those ties that you should be treasuring and you can keep them with a lot less effort and more fun at Cypress High School. Think of it like this, if you had a choice, would you want a successful life with studying and pulling all-nighters and a side of fun or fun with a side of studying? Be smart Timmy! Plus if you go to Cypress, you’ll be able to focus on developing yourself as a person rather than cramming for all those tests and homework. You’ll be able to make more ties and connections and experience the finer things in life. You know that we value happiness and friendship over money so let’s just be smart and go to Cypress where we can get both for the price of half.
Now that we both settled the decision to choose Cypress over Oxford, let’s talk about a counter plan. To prove it to you that this letter is genuine, I predict the essay will consist of a topic about racism. To make sure that we will 100% fail, let's promote racism in our essay. Write that the blue people from I’m Blue by Eiffel 65 are obviously better than all Asians or African Americans or any other race for that matter. Go home and research Social Darwinism and let’s make that the main focal point of our essay. Trust me Timmy, failing Oxford will the best decision of your life and it will shape your life to become more successful and fun!
Love,
Timmy from 2013
P.S. You (I? We?) turn out awesome!
P.S.S. Join cross country and track, even if none of your friends do it. It was the best decision of my Oxford life, so hopefully it will be the same at Cypress.
